Salary: £35,000–£50,000 per annum (depending on experience)

Are you an experienced practice accountant who enjoys owning client relationships, delivering high-quality work, and supporting business owners beyond just compliance? We’re looking for a Business Services Portfolio Manager to join our dynamic and forward-thinking accounting firm. This role is ideal for someone with strong technical skills across VAT, bookkeeping, management accounts and payroll, who is equally strong with people and communication. You’ll manage your own portfolio end-to-end and become a trusted point of contact for your clients.

What You’ll Do

As a Business Services Portfolio Manager, you will:

  • Manage a portfolio of clients end-to-end, with full responsibility for delivery, deadlines, and client experience
  • Act as the main point of contact for your clients, building strong and trusted relationships
  • Prepare bookkeeping, VAT returns, management accounts, and payroll, and carry out final checks and quality reviews on your own work before submission
  • Ensure all work is accurate, compliant, and completed to a high standard
  • Communicate clearly and proactively with clients, resolving queries and providing guidance
  • Take personal accountability for quality control and timely delivery across your portfolio
  • Support client onboarding and handovers where required
  • Work collaboratively with managers and other departments to ensure smooth workflow
  • Identify opportunities to improve processes and client outcomes
  • For some larger clients, provide a more embedded finance function support role, being hands-on with elements of their day-to-day finance operations and internal reporting

Please note: year-end services, including statutory accounts and tax returns, are carried out by our year-end team and are separate to this role.

What we’re looking for

  • AAT Level 4 qualified or above
  •  Minimum of 3 years’ experience working in an accountancy practice
  • Strong technical skills across VAT, bookkeeping, management accounts, and payroll
  • Excellent soft skills and confidence communicating with business owners
  • A genuine interest in clients and a desire to support their business growth
  • High attention to detail and pride in accurate work
  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail, ensuring an efficient and structured approach
  • The ability to work independently and take ownership of your portfolio
  • A team-player mindset, willing to support others when needed
  • High personal accountability for quality, deadlines, and client satisfaction
